Father's Day is this weekend which means that stores and bloggers have been posting gift ideas for Dad for over a week now. For every great gift idea I see there are ten that make me think ... Dad does not want that! So, just time for Father's Day, I'm happy to bring you some idea options that have been vetted and approved by my father himself. Because, in his words, if you are older than eight your Dad doesn't want a "World's Best Dad" t-shirt or coffee mug ... "there's a reason you always see those things at Goodwill!"
For the Athlete:
Is your dad an athlete? A former athlete? Someone that likes to watch people do athletic things?
These gifts are perfect:
Left: Swims Sports Loafers are perfect for any dad that spends time at the lake/pool/beach. More stylish than flip flops and sturdier than your regular loafers, you won't be embarrassed to be seen with dad when he's sporting these.
Middle: If your dad has a favorite sports team a no-fail gift are tickets to see his team play. Whether he loves soccer or baseball or even golf, if there's a pro (or semi-pro) team nearby, tickets to see them play will always be a home run! Bonus if you go with him!
Right: Ebbets Field Flannels has the most adorable line of t-shirts and baseball hats with vintage logos from teams of the past. If you want to upgrade dad's t-shirt uniform, this is the way to do it!
For the Epicurean:
Does your dad like to unwind after a long day by pouring himself a drink?
Treat him to a gift worth toasting:
Left: If dad loves whiskey consider a subscription to Caskers, a quarterly whiskey (or vodka) club. It's like Birchbox for booze!
Middle: Microbrews are huge in the beer community so why not help dad make his own. This kit from Williams Sonoma will start him on his way to becoming his own brewmaster!
Right: Brewing beer not dad's thing? How about a Chillsner from the folks at Corkcicle? Freeze the Chillsner and insert it into any bottle of beer to keep your drink the perfect temperature so dad never has to worry about drinking a warm beer again.
For the Vintage Lover:
Everything old is new again which, for dads that love to relive their youth, is a great thing:
Left: Once upon a time you couldn't take pictures with your phone. Help dad remember the days when you had to patiently wait for your photo to develop with a Instax Camera from Fujifilm.
Middle: If dad is really lucky, one of his favorite groups is on tour this summer. From Jimmy Buffet to The Grateful Dead, if someone he loves is in town this summer, you'll get brownie points by buying him tickets!
Right: If dad's favorite act isn't coming to town, treat him to some vinyl and a record player from Crosley. It's stylish enough that mom won't mind having it in her house while showing dad that you remember what he always says ... everything sounds better on vinyl!
For the Handyman:
Whether your dad is more Tim the Toolman Taylor or more Chip Gaines, any dad that considers himself a handyman (or even a want-to-be handyman) will love these gifts:
Left: I have yet to meet a man that doesn't have a huge man-crush on Chip Gaines. One click of the browser and a Chip-approved, as seen on TV, #demoday shirt will be yours/his!
Middle: I hesitated to put a gift card on this gift list but dad insisted. "If you don't know what tool to buy, get a gift card," he said. "Dad will thank you for a gift he doesn't have to return!"
Right: If you do know what tool dad needs or wants, go for it. Need a little guidance? Ask mom! Mom knows everything!
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Father's Day!
